First I bought a pair of Canon 12x36 IS iii. They have a very good look and stabilize normal handshakes very well. They are great for hiking/bird watching. However, I was disappointed to find that they couldn't handle large shakes like viewing from a vehicle like a boat, car, or plane. I ended up buying this pair of Fujinon Techno-Stabi 12x28. They offer much better stabilization for large swinging movements while still handling small impacts. This makes sense since the specified compensation range is 0.9 degrees for Canon and 3 degrees for Fujinon. The Fujinon 12x28 image isn't as bright as the Canon 12x36, but it's fine for my daytime use. You have to hold down the button to control the Canon stabilization, which makes it difficult to focus during stabilization. Fujinon has a 10 minute auto power off rotary switch with LED indicator. Other advantages of the Fujinon 12x28s include smaller size, lower cost, shorter close focus range and longer battery life. Canon has flip-up rubber eyecups, while Fujinon has roll-ups. Both worked quite well with glasses.
