Landline connections consist of two wires. Usually red and green. The line leading to the outside was Cat5e, i.e. four twisted pair lines. No problem. This box has a phone jack on the front. Connected to four screw terminals inside. Two wires from the incoming cable, connect them to two for the phone and you're done. I found a plus. There are two thinner spots on the sides of the lid that match the spots on the box and allow for side access. It was exactly what I needed. A heavy pair of scissors cut off the "cap" and I was able to move the incoming cable to one side and rotate the phone jack to the left for easier access without having to make a sharp bend in the cable. I believe the Leviton Company has been around for many years and this product, while basic, has not disappointed me.
