The Audi A4 (like most German cars) is a picky beast. It can be difficult to find the parts and fluids that older Audis need, but Amazon has done an amazing job of breaking into the auto parts and accessories space. For the last 4 years I've run my 1.8 ton car with a Mobil 1 M1-301 heavy duty oil filter but recently I've swapped it out for a Mann-Filter W 940/25 spin-on oil filter. Not only is it cheaper, Mann is Audi's along with Mahle and Bosch OEMs and offers superior internal filter structure and material. It's one of those things you just shouldn't skimp on, it's not worth the potential mud problem. In addition to the build quality, Mann filters also have an interface on the top that allows for easy removal without the need for special oil filter tools. Make sure you only hand tighten it when installing as using any of the Lasoo tools can easily damage the housing and internal filter.
