I love to swim laps outdoors. Sun protection and good coverage. I have very fair skin and need to constantly monitor my sun exposure. With this and sunscreen swim leggings, I can swim in an outdoor pool and know I'm not going to fry. You should size down and fit snug if you plan to actually swim and not just splash around for fun. I've had other rash guards that weren't tight and they were annoying like F! Generated resistance, got air bubbles, couldn't wait to get them out. They are only suitable for recreation, not for swimming laps. FYI I have this in the short sleeve version. I swam in it on Maui. I felt great. But even with a waterproof lotion SPF 80 on exposed skin in an hour, I had a tan line on my hands. That's why I switched to long sleeves.
