As with many bicycle lights, this method increases the light output. That's probably close to 800 lumens and a far cry from 3000. Still, for $30 it's still not bad. This light is suitable for most low speed driving and for use in areas with decent ambient light. I wouldn't use it for fast freeway driving or dark mountain bike trails where early warning is needed due to rocks, big bumps, tree roots, etc.
