"Waterproof "? Yeah, right.

If the description didn't claim the unit was "waterproof" to IPX65, I'd just say it was cheaply made. But as you can see in photos, the battery compartment case leaves about a 1mm gap facing straight up into the rain, and there's no gasket of any sort inside the battery lid to stop water intrusion. So it's really nowhere near waterproof, despite the description and specs. On the other hand, water leaks out as easily as it leaks in, so there's no pooling water inside the case, and battery voltage is low enough I don't expect issues with shorting out, just longer-term corrosion potential. It was less than $20 from Best Buy Warehouse, so I can live with the quality for around the house. But I wouldn't want to rely on this unit for camping or anything safety-critical.

Pros
  • Super bright
Cons
  • The waterproofing can degrade over time, making it less reliable in wet conditions
