Well designed and irreplaceable.
Extremely handy for do-it-yourself installation or simply adding accessories to an existing installation. Of course, you can connect them directly to your camera's hot shoe, allowing you to add a microphone or video light with a 1/4" mount instead of a hot shoe mount. I have used these on a dual hot shoe L-Bracket to mount a pistol mic and video light on my portable rig and they fit perfectly for this. I wish they were a hair cheaper, but they're so useful I can't complain.
