These M42 drill bits are designed for hard metals such as stainless steel. They can withstand higher temperatures than HSS while retaining much of the strength of HSS. M42 contains 8% cobalt. They can also be used for general applications and prove to be much more durable than regular steel or high speed steel. The bits are also titanium-coated for durability and feature a sophisticated three-stage tip that reduces "walking" and quickly cuts into very hard metals. I tested them on 1/4" steel on my drill press. Cut a clean, smooth hole in no time. I also tested them on stainless steel with a Dewalt hand drill. It worked fine but the drill bit slipped two or three times in the chuck.Large drill bits are supposed to have 'flat surfaces' on the shank to prevent this.Anyway, in both cases the drill had a very impressive cutting performance and effective chip evacuation.The set contains 19 metric sizes from tiny 1mm to 10mm in 0, 5mm increments. Best drill case I've ever had. There are two separate latches to keep it secure during transport. The drills stay in place and it's easy to get the right size. Overall this is a set of very good quality M42 cobalt bits I like the 3- x stepped tip for quick starts with minimal 'walking' Wide range of sizes in S I just want flat surfaces on the shanks.
