Recently bought a new fifth wheel with a heavier drawbar. I emailed an Air Lift technician to verify the correct kit number for my truck ('03 Silverado 2500HD LB). The answer came within an hour. The kit came quickly from Revain (best online price I could find). Relatively easy to install. I only use it sporadically, so I decided against a built-in compressor. When we go camping I take a small 100psi compressor with me. A T-fitting is used because the transverse load is usually balanced. Thread the inflation valve through the threaded hole in the trailer socket bracket next to the hitch, leaving the bumper intact. Unloaded approx. 20 lbs. air, it drives fine. The truck is tough at over 30 pounds. in this. The system also reduces body roll when cornering. I used the manual's recommendation of 40 pounds of assist per pound of air and put 65 pounds in the airbags to support the weight of the 5th wheel hitch and the weight of the trailer tongue. Hooked up a 5 wheel camper and leveled the truck with a full trailer load. Auxiliary springs were no longer involved. Towing was VERY smooth and stable. I would not recommend driving an empty truck with bags over 30 pounds inflated. Not only is it very stiff, but it is also sensitive to wheel hops and reacts significantly more to impacts. I chose the airbag system because you can adjust the amount of support as needed. The RV dealer recommended heavy springs for the truck, which would also do the job, but 98% of the time I drive a truck with no RV and little or no body weight, it will be too stiff and uncomfortable to drive. The pneumatic lift combines the best of both worlds. UPDATE: I highly recommend only using them for occasional truck capacity increases. Check your vehicle's specifications and restrictions. You are there for a reason. Towing a 5th wheel on the freeway or long distances can be difficult. I encountered a long concrete overpass on the freeway that caused the trailer to "hang" or bounce up and down due to a small dip in the middle of each concrete section. . I didn't lose control, but I was scared. I have since bought a larger truck with more than enough payload and towing capacity.
