The mount is only 6 " but works

I didn't pay much attention to this when ordering - I think I was expecting it to offer a little wider coverage of the locking area but it works well . After drilling holes in a metal post, alignment may be correct, but first use the Phillips head screws to "cut" holes to prepare them for one-sided screws. Single ended screws are not good for cutting threads unless you have a very wide flat head. A flat head is the right size for the screw to slide off the head fairly easily if you need to apply any torque at all.
