Review on 2-Pack Kohler-Compatible Canister Flush Valve Seal Replacements for Toilets - Equal to K-GP1059291 by John Shitifano

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great guide, fixed phantom flush/leak, no leaks. They work!

My wife made the mistake of throwing chlorine tablets into a tank (not a bowl) in our toilets. By the time I realized it, it was too late and the damage had been done. A Kohler toilet had a pervasive problem of "ghost flushing," where water slowly drains from the tank into the bowl, causing the toilet to refill from time to time. The other toilet was difficult to flush - when you pushed the flush lever there was a lot of resistance as if something got stuck. Having never worked with the fancy Kohler mechanism, I worried that repairs would be difficult. A quick google search later I found that the valve seal was the likely culprit so I ordered these 2 packs. It had clear written instructions on how to remove the assembly (a simple quarter turn) to access and replace the valve seal. The total repair time was about 2 minutes on the first toilet and 1 minute on the second toilet once I figured out what to do. I tested the leak by putting a few drops of food coloring in the water reservoir and letting it sit for a few hours. When I came back later I found that the water in the bowl remained clear and that the colored water had not entered the bowl. No confirmed leaks! Based on the complete and clear instructions, the cost (these 2 packs cost the same as 1 pack from Kohler) and the fact that the gaskets solved my problem, I think the 5 star rating is justified. Can't comment on durability, but since the thickness feels as good or even better than the stock model, I don't expect any issues in the long run. If this changes in the next few years, I will update this review.
