Review on ๐Ÿ”’ Gates 32941 PowerGrip Hose Clamp: Superior Fastening Solution for Optimal Performance by Eddie Sanchez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I wasn't sure, but it works.

My wife's Infiniti G35 was starting to leak from the top hose on the radiator side. Apparently this is a common problem with this particular machine. The dealer called me to fix it for a little over $100. Yeah, I'm not surprised by the ridiculous quote about something that takes 20 minutes and $15 to replace (assuming you also replace the hose). I came across these clamps on a random forum. I was skeptical but for $2.50 why not? I had to buy a heat gun for other projects anyway (an extra $20). These clamps are quite tight on the coolant hose and make it difficult to install the hose on the radiator. I'm a little nervous as OEM heatsinks are all plastic. I managed to tighten it and get the thermal gun to both terminals. I didn't notice any change in the physical shape of the clip, just discoloration in different places (from jet black to dark grey). I still wasn't sure if it would work. I kept him warm and moved so as not to melt. After a while I decided to let the brackets cool down. As it cooled, I grabbed the collars and burned my hand. I waited a little longer. I then went back to twisting the hose and clamps to make sure it was tight. Trusting that, I refilled the coolant and drove around a bit. No leaks. Temperatures have been falling below freezing and into the 60's for about 3 weeks now (that's Oregon for you). I checked it regularly but now I'm sure they did their job. I'll admit they were more expensive than regular snail clamps but still good value and the black ribbon looks a lot better than the regular galvanized ones. Steel worm clamp (if you're into that sort of thing).

Pros
  • Heat sensitive thermoplastic with memory to prevent over or under tightening
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
