TL,DR: Good image quality, questionable sharpness at widest aperture, questionable build quality (buy the film version) Me, interested as a hobbyist me the following properties of this lens: - wide angle, but without distortion - extremely wide open aperture. The disadvantages of this lens are well documented. It's not very sharp at f1.4, but not unsuitable for photos and videos. It gets really sharp between f2 and f2.8. Is it worth paying for an f1.4 lens that doesn't produce sharpness at such low apertures? Phone call. However, I have made many amazing videos and images with this lens. Installing Magic Lantern on your SD card and enabling focus makes shooting with the lens a breeze and almost rivals the speed I shoot at with autofocus lenses. In live view, ie. Finally, the build quality of this lens isn't the best. I'm not careful with my lenses so this is a word of caution. I throw them in my backpack with everything else and generally abuse them. I paid for it because the aperture ring stopped working and I had to open the lens and tighten the ring. I've had this lens for 2.5 years now and the construction is flimsy and I probably won't be able to sell it as it looks like it's about to fall apart. I give it 2 stars for sharpness issues and build quality. . It pains me to say this because I've taken amazing pictures and videos with it and I still use it and have a lot of fun with it, but the fact that I probably can't resell it hurts the bottom line. Good lenses have a high resale value. Sharpness is a problem that cannot be avoided. However, the build quality is easy to solve. Either take care of your baby or choose the cinematic version of this lens. I have a Samyang 14mm film version and it's very solid.
