Review on 💾 Macally PHR-250CC: 2.5" IDE Hard Drive Enclosure with Firewire and Hi-Speed USB by Edward Perez

I bought this case to restore my laptop's broken hard drive. When I received the device, my first impression was how well designed (and packaged) it was. The device has a very attractive design and is much smaller than I thought it would be. That's about the size of two of your regular $10 calculators stacked on top of each other. I have a device that communicates over a FireWire cable and is powered over a USB cable. Note that the USB "power" cable actually has a different "power adapter" connector on one end to connect it to the device and a standard USB connector on the other end. I don't know if there are other devices of this type, but I thought it was worth mentioning. These units have a few oddities. First, the small screws that hold the case together are VERY easy to loosen. Use a Phillips screwdriver with a sharp tip (not rounded or blunt) and be sure to use plenty of force as you begin to remove the screws. The second issue I have with this unit is the LED indicator on the front panel. I'm not kidding when I say you can use this thing as a flashlight when the lights go out in your computer room (think Mag-Lite Intensity). DO NOT look directly into this light as it may damage your eyes. The light was so bright I put a piece of tape on it to dim it a bit. All in all, aside from those two issues, it's a really great device. I have no problem recommending it to anyone.
