I have found that 36 volt solenoids are typically only rated for 45-55 amps while these 12 volt units are rated for 150 amps. One of the 36 volt devices got stuck in my golf cart and suddenly I was running at full speed. Note that reverse is a good safety switch. The only problem with 12 volt boxes is getting 12 volts in a cart with 36 volt batteries, which means you use a converter and then the light can be 12 volts too. Read the specifications when buying a magnet.
