There was still a big mess on the protective plate. This only works 100% if you leave the drain plug in the oil pan and drain the oil slowly enough not to overfill the funnel, or if the funnel has a larger hole to catch more oil. The funnel was deformed so that it did not keep its shape. And most of the funnel just isn't big enough in diameter. Better save your $18 and just do something yourself. Or do it very slowly and don't completely remove the drain plugs from the pan. But if you do it this way, you still don't need a funnel. $18 isn't that much so it was worth it. If the oil was cold it might work. But that would be far from ideal.
