Tavy tile spacers are the only way out. I've used them on 12 x 12 with great success. I just did a 6 x 24 tile floor and it turned out great. These spacers sit on top of the tiles so they can be easily removed. They're made of a harder plastic so they won't get pinched between the tiles and maintain an even spacing. The spacers have double legs on one side and the other side is great for keeping the corners of 4 tiles apart.
