This is a great idea and would be great if it worked. Too bad it doesn't work half the time. I've tried everything to make sure it's reliable. What really sucks about it is that it just randomly crashes and fails. The worst thing is you don't know when it will fail. If it's out of sync or no longer receiving a signal, there's no visual indication it's happened unless you actually look at it. There's a small satellite icon that flashes when data is being received, but this only happens about once a minute or so. Pretty annoying. I'm not new to electronics or wireless devices. I tried everything to keep in touch. I replaced the batteries with new ones from the Energizer Lithium Ultimate Store and they still didn't work. It stops as soon as I step inside or turn around. Others dealt with him successfully, he could hit or miss. Maybe there are just a lot of bad ones out there. If you want to play roulette with this product you can try it, it would be really great if it worked as advertised. Maybe Maverick just has a terrible or non-existent quality control department. For what they charge I really expected something better than what I got. However, for me it's too unreliable even if I have one that actually works as there is no visual signal quality indicator. You can sit and watch TV not knowing that you won't get temporary updates for several hours. Good way to ruin meat. I immediately returned this product and ordered an original ThermoWorks cooking thermometer/timer. I recommend this if you don't have a probe thermometer. If you already have a wired one, forget the wireless one and just use what you have. After reading the reviews on here, it seems like no one can even get a decent, reliable WiFi connection. ThermoWorks does USB, maybe I'll just use a laptop and remote desktop ha.
