Absolutely normal.
I didn't know what to expect from this book. I liked it well enough. The Aida paper wasn't the best, as was the tire (nearly busted trying to tighten it). But I liked the patterns. I'm new to cross stitch so this was a good beginner course for me. It was easy to understand and I was able to do a pretty cute portrait of my family with it.
