This spokeshave was fashioned similar to the shaves of the 1800's. A simple blade, a toe piece, and handles. The knurled knobs allow adjustment of the "mouth" opening, and the screws on the toepiece adjust the shaving thickness. If you're new to this style, loosen the screws on the toepiece, slip a business card underneath, and tighten the screws. You'll get nice thick shavings to "hog off" a lot of wood in a hurry. Now readjust the toepiece for the thickness of a sheet of typing paper, and you'll end up with nice thin smoothing curls of wood. You'll seldom need to close the mouth opening until you have sharpened the blade enough to take off some of its length. Always go with the grain of the wood if possible. That's about it!
