Have used a Kizen instant read thermometer for the past few months with mixed results. The thermometer provides accurate readings and is easy to use. It's also durable and easy to clean. The magnetic back is also a nice feature as it's easy to attach and you don't have to reach around to find it. My issue with the Kizen instant-read thermometer is that it's not "instant" at all, or even fast. I bought it knowing I needed a very fast thermometer so I could examine the meat inside my smoker and get quick readings by holding the door open. Heat and smoke are invaluable when cooking and I hate keeping the door open longer than necessary so I went with Kizen knowing its 2-3 second read requirement. In my experience the thermometer will rise somewhat slowly for 5-7 seconds before showing a reading, and sometimes longer. Watching him climb 135, 142, 155, 164, 169, 170, 173, 174 and then explore different areas of meat or different cuts of meat is truly mind blowing. If I only have to nudge 5 times and each time takes 7 seconds, I have the smoking door open for more than half a minute, very easy. If it only took 2-3 seconds I would only open the door a third longer than I was hoping for when I bought the Kizen model. I will continue to use it for open pan grilling, but for my grill/smoker I will be looking for something different, something faster.
