I broke my old rear axle and ordered this kit to fix it. The bearing cone on this axle on the cassette side was different than on the wheel, but the original from the wheel screwed on without any problems, I was able to use the parts from this kit for the other end. On my bike it was possible to remove and install the axle without removing the cassette, others may require a cassette wrench and chain whip to disassemble. They also need axle lubrication. When my axle broke they also bent the derailleur hanger a bit and the derailleur started pinging against the spokes in lowest gear and shifting was terrible. I returned it to the working position with an adjustable wrench and it worked correctly without having to readjust the derailleur. After that it rode like a new bike!
