Review on πŸ’§ Leak Intel Z-Wave Plus Water Control Valve - 1 Inch, NSF Certified, Made in USA, 10-Year Warranty by Jeff Long

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good build quality. Good control.

It's only been a few days but so far I'm really liking the quality of the valve/regulator and the ease of installation. I used two 3/4" MNPT to 3/4" Copper Shark Bite Fittings to install it and installation was a breeze. If you go down this route, I highly recommend a shark bite deburring tool (which doubles as a gauge to ensure your connections are secure) and be sure to clean the copper tubing thoroughly before installing with anything NON-ABRUSHING. (Shark bite fittings don't like pitted or scratched surfaces, so stay away from cleaning supplies like sandpaper.) Although my pipes were brown rather than copper, a little cleaning with a bartender's friend's mild detergent and a Scotchbrite pad worked beautifully . Another thing is that for some reason the instructions say that a 12 inch pipe needs to be removed to install this unit. Depending on your setup, this measurement is likely to be very inaccurate. For my shark fittings I only had to remove about 4 inches of pipe to get it in place. , if configured as a generic Z-Wave device, it will be connected and displayed as a lightbulb on the control panel. Luckily it sets the subcategory right, so the ALL ON or ALL OFF command for your lights doesn't turn off the water either, but the lightbulb icon is a bit annoying nonetheless. Also, I saw other reviews. If you mention a leak, use GOOD quality PTFE tape (I used Oatey FASTape, a thick gray material). I did this five turns per the manufacturer's recommendations and then used two crescent wrenches to secure the fittings in place without over tightening (it's an NPT thread so it tapers and the fittings are NOT fully seated , but they fit well ). Overall impressed so far - and I hope the only activation I'll ever need will be manual and not from one of my leak sensors.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Good but not great
