The thing is bad. I cleaned the blade when it arrived. I ran it through a knife sharpener for two or three coarse passes and two fine passes. Usually only for deburring the blade. Apparently the matter was really acute. I ran it through the hot water and then ran my thumb and forefinger, squeezing the blade to scrape off the rest of the metal. What looked like a movie fell into my hands. What I didn't realize was that it was skin from my thumb and forefinger. No pain, then I realized it was blood. Send this thing to Sharp. It has a wide bevel and not the narrow bevel of a chef's knife. Excellent purchase would buy again.
