So maybe when I ordered this I was expecting too much. It actually works very well for its intended purpose which I believe is to measure the shape of various items so you can mark and carve the wood to match the item. I find this to be accurate enough to do this in most cases. Especially when sealants are involved. That might not be enough for fine furniture. I also don't think it will work well for drawing, except in the crudest of cases. In other words, for a good artist, roughly editing an object and then painting it yourself can help you. If you're a bad artist hoping this will make an exact copy of something without you having to do anything at all, you're in for a nasty surprise. (I am. LOL) But for most household and crafting needs, it's pretty good, inexpensive, and reasonably well made. If I could do better I would like metal shims and thinner shims for more accuracy. I'd also like a CLAMP to hold them in place after you've taken shape or form. However, when you look at the prices this is a very good value and works well for most rough measurements to get a good idea of the accuracy. the shape of the subject.
