Review on Cardone 21 5443 Remanufactured Power Steering by Coby Hall

Died at 8000 miles

Came with fluid (it was red, like ATP, which this car needs as power steering fluid). The electrical connection clip on the back was broken when I got it so I cut it off and spliced it back to the original. All holes were present and properly tapped, but the pump housing did not fit into the bracket. I had to shave off about 1/32" of the back with an angle grinder to get it to fit. The pump hasn't given me any problems for about 8000 miles / 5 months. The pump howled like it was dying. I put a stethoscope on it and it sounded pretty sloppy. Maybe it was a bad rework, or it could have died from something in the power steering system, but I'm definitely not happy with the power steering pump, which has a lifespan of less than 10,000 miles.

Pros
  • Shafts are hardcoated to exact specifications to prevent premature seal wear and extend pump life; The final pump assembly is computer tested to measure pressure, bypass, fluid flow, valve operation, steering effort and noise to ensure reliable operation.
Cons
  • Expensive insurance
