Review on Ultimate Convenience with Denise2Go Interchangeable Crochet Hook Set – Complete (Blue Flowers) by Amber Perez

denise v Clover

After reading numerous reviews I decided on the Tunisian crochet kit from Denise Interchangeables as my first Tunisian crochet kit. I wanted to like this set. I figured it was an overall respectable set and had more hooks than most at a not outrageous price. I also liked the small cloth pouch that came with this kit as it fits easily in my craft bag. Hook length - Denise Hooks are too short for me. Admittedly, this may be due to the fact that I use a pencil grip in traditional crochet due to issues with comfort and wrist strain when grasping with a knife. When holding the Clover hooks, the edge of my hand rests comfortably on the edge of the hook, which I find necessary for comfort. Denise hooks are too short for this and I soon realize that I'm overstraining them when wearing them. I didn't realize how much of a difference there was in the extra length until I started using Clover hooks. The thickness of the cable is honestly the issue that made me buy another set. I was working on a bag (Harper Bucket Bag by TL Yarn Crafts in case anyone else needs a different pattern to start with) and because the cords are so thick and stiff I had a lot more trouble getting my stitches nice and straight. You can see from the photos that the Clover cords are much more flexible and less likely to get in the way of a small round project where flexibility is important. Connections - I found that connections were becoming problematic. There were a few problems when the yarn got tangled at the hook-cord junction, and many more when the thread got tangled at the junction between the cords. One thing about the Denise brand is that most cables are relatively short, but you lengthen them by tying them together, allowing for a more customized length. Due to the stiffness of the cable and the breakage at the connector point, I had trouble keeping the filament in place in the connector.

Pros
  • Compact cotton case ideal for on the go
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
