Having used either open clips or plain old fashioned clipless pedals my whole life, I thought it was time to switch to clipless commuting (5 miles one way). I wanted something compatible with SPD shoes as I wanted to make it easier to walk on either side. When I first started using clips I figured these Shimano Clickr pedals would be a good first step. So far I've found them to be easy to trim with a slight twist of the ankle. I'm not afraid to stop at a red light because I know I can always get off the clips, they are very easy to use. I also like that these are regular pedals and very comfortable to use in regular street shoes. The only downside is a slight learning curve that cuts into the pedals - you just have to put your foot in and push - now that I've gotten used to it, it's a breeze. These pedals make cycling a little easier for me as I now use a little more effort going uphill - not much, but enough to make a difference. I didn't pull the clamps out unless I wanted to, but I felt completely safe knowing I could always escape quickly if I wanted to.
