Review on Robinair (32036) 1/4&#34 by Centerfold Montague

The name Robinair speaks for itself.

I only bought these hoses because I had an old solid brass Robinair manifold with a good set of gauges and an old rotten hose. The Robinair name speaks for itself when it comes to a quality product and these hoses compare favorably to a new set of quality gauges, even with the purchase of adapters separately. The downside is the old gauge set doesn't have an R134-A temp scale, but most mechanics I've seen just look at the pressure anyway. If necessary, print out a pressure/temperature scale from the internet for reference. I've had several sets of R134 gauges just for car storage, but the quick connect ends either refused to seat properly, or allowable damage to the o-rings in the ports and built in schrader valves is a permanent aggravation or the mating plug doesn't fit properly, or the charge flow is simply slowed down, making emptying the bottle nearly impossible. For R134 systems. Buy the Mountain R12-r134a adapter kit. They bolt directly onto the hoses and include an adapter for R134a can threaders. They are also "green" because they do not release hose pressure to the atmosphere when disconnected. Look at the ad they claim 8 ball connectors but there are only 6. Having used them on 2 cars both needed a vacuum and then a charge I don't think it matters much unless you are an air conditioning mechanic who uses them all the time. Whether you're a weekend mechanic, restorer, or just a keen handyman, you can breathe new life into an old set of sensors that you paid big bucks for and probably thought you couldn't use anymore. This purchase of hoses and adapters costs less than junk at the auto parts store and gives me the reliability I want from my tools.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
