Rugged JBOD suitable for computers and accessories

Ignore the comments for now. Assuming you followed the attached diagram and installed the device management software, the disc is included with that software. I hooked this up to Windows and it "just worked". But I didn't buy this Windows storage shelf. I have a TVs-1282T3 whose memory I needed to expand. Easy to install. But be 100% sure you have SAS cables labeled as SAS cables managing specific disk groups. Look at the diagram what is the cable 1,2,3,4 on the shelf. The controller says 1,2,3,4 on the back of the card. It's hard to see after installation, so pay attention before installing the map. Then just connect the cables to the right place, turn on the shelf, wait 2 minutes. Then turn on the host. Throughput is high but appears to be a little slower than on the host, although the disks I have theoretically installed are faster. (10TB Seagate Ironwolf Pro 7200 drives.) Not a big fan of not being able to control the fans via software either. There's a switch on the back that lets you set the fan speed to slow, high, or auto. I left it on automatic. When I created the RAID group, I received a warning that one of the hard drives had reached the temperature warning threshold. Since the NAS software cannot control the fan speed, this warning did not change anything. Went and changed the switch to fast and within 2 minutes the drive temp dropped from 110F to 90F. After that I switched it back to Auto. No warnings since, but I haven't loaded the system much other than copying files. (Let's see what happens with the first cleaning.) In general I am satisfied. I have 90TB RAID6 on this storage. The performance is solid. Definitely recommend.

Pros
  • Storage expansion for computers and QNAP NAS servers, Windows and Ubuntu
Cons
  • Not sure
