I've never worked with leather, but when painting outdoors I needed a quality watercolor paper sleeve. It was important to me that the leather was full grain because I wanted it to withstand the weather and last a long time. A quick note: full-grain leather is a full-fledged hide. If you sand the outermost part you will end up with a thinner top grain leather. If you sand it down, you have real leather. (You need to put some artificial texture on it to make it look like leather.) I mention this because it's definitely full-grain leather. And it's great. This skin arrived two days after purchase and it is beautiful! I ran out and grabbed a sewing awl. I used a drawing compass to mark and punch holes for sewing. I cut the skin with an exacto knife and made this pouch overnight. It wasn't as difficult as I thought and I'm very happy to take it off when I go camping in a few weeks. This is a nice thick genuine leather. I'm thinking of making a bigger bag but I want to test this one out first so I know what to do differently with the next one.
