very pleasantly surprised

This food slicer really exceeded my expectations. I've always had a meat grinder "at home" in my kitchen. This unit is one of the best I've ever bought, it actually beats my last $300 piece of crap. I received it, installed and tested it, made party trays. People buy these little slicers and expect them to perform like $1,000+ commercial slicers, which isn't going to happen, Sunny Jim. However, this cuts through the hardest objects with above-average speed. Yes, loud, but not critical. All those little homemade slicers are loud. Again, you want quiet, a $1000 commercial slicer is much quieter. So back to testing: cold cuts, salami, sausage, turkey breast and roast beef. Works well on all, but is best when fresh meats like turkey and roast beef are partially frozen. This slicer thinly sliced my ham, turkey, and roast beef, just like a deli does when it's partially frozen. Next up are Cheese, Jarlsburg, American Swiss, Cheddar, Monterey Ray Jack and Provolone. Harder cheeses, Jarlsburg and Swiss, have been through zip, zip, zip. (Actually more like ziiiiiiiip, ziiiiiiiip, ziiiiiiip, it's a cheap homemade slicer) and I was able to slice it thin enough to see through, great results. With softer cheeses, cheddar, etc., the process is much slower and you cannot slice very thinly from these cheeses. But that is normal with such slicers. Slicing softer cheese on any home cutter takes patience and sometimes a cooking spray like Pam's helps and this device works as well or better than any other home device I've had. Vegetables: tomatoes, onions, potatoes, peppers, etc. All handled perfectly, even slightly soft very ripe tomatoes. Housekeeping is on par with any other unit I have owned over the years. While all of those new slicers are easier to break to clean than before, that's a good thing. My final rating for it is above average when it comes to getting the job done. I am very happy with my purchase. I can't comment on the durability of the device as I've only had it for a short time. It seems well built. If he dies soon I will come back and lower this rating. YES I REALLY BUY AND USE THIS CUTTER AND NO I HAVE NOT PERCHED FOR THIS REVIEW
