Okay, I don't usually run and write reviews right after receiving a product, but I was (ironically) blown away by that vacuum. The backlash was possibly compounded by the sheer mishap of the past month when I was trying to get a vacuum that would fit a specific spot in my space-constrained workshop. However, the experience also provided contrasts to highlight where this vacuum cleaner shines. Vacuum here which seemed good but was too high on arrival. I returned the one and went to the store to buy one that was on sale but they didn't have it so I ordered it online and it never shipped. The replacement arrived with a lot of problems so I ended up sending it back too. DeWALT is a company I've used for years and are known for their durability and I was hoping this was the last vacuum, this one was at the top. I got home last night and assembled it straight away which took about 3 minutes. Use the screws to attach the casters to the base and you're done. It fit perfectly in the space under my desk (it had a gap of about 21.5 inches), so that was already in my favor. quite loud, but the dust piles from the weekend project grew eyes and stared at me. I read in other reviews that this vacuum cleaner is pretty quiet, so I took a chance. I was amazed at how quiet it runs. about 20dB in my garage, it floated (vacuumed?) about 60-63dB when on. Unbelievable. My wife said she can't hear it downstairs and the noise spreads pretty well around our house. Another big plus was the size. After finally getting my hands on the #2 vacuum and trying it out, I was disappointed when it choked on sawdust whenever it encountered more than a dime, so every 2 minutes. This made it pretty much useless for my purposes. The DeWALT's hose is 1" 7/8" in diameter and easily handles everything I apply it to, including small pieces of wood. It also detaches quickly from the vacuum with a push-tab compared to the screw-on type that the previous shop vacuum had, which had a habit of pinching my skin between the hose cuff and the vacuum cap. Another review said he found the hose connector on the DeWALT to be too flimsy and brittle, but that seems good enough to me for now. It doesn't look flimsy and I think it should hold up well. A nice touch is the rubber cable holder. It's a lot easier than unscrewing a lid or whatever. The only flaws I have with this vacuum cleaner so far are minor but worth noting. There is no built-in storage space for accessories on board. The narrow and wide headers come with a mesh bag, and the tube extensions can be moved freely. I'll probably come up with something for them, but FYI, here it is. Finally, the lid could fit a little tighter against the base. It doesn't move when in use, but it would be better if it locked into place more firmly. I can put a pad there just for personal preference. Again only worth mentioning. If I had the chance I would give this vacuum a 4.5 for those things alone, but I've been incredibly happy with it so far and think 5 stars better reflects my experience. My first impression is a certain satisfaction. If something catastrophic happens I'll update my review to reflect it and just hope it happens within the return period!
