I need a 5 inch square so thought it would be great to get a set in multiple sizes. I'm new to quilting so I spent 2 hours cutting my 5 inch squares. I've already cut them with other squares I've bought and found the size was wrong. I measured and it was 5 and 1/2 inches. The box says it has a 1/4" matte seam allowance all the way around. Why? Why do I need a seam allowance? How do I cut the perfect 5" square with a built-in seam allowance? Answer: I can't. Now I have to take the time to remove the extra fabric so I wasted not only time but fabric as well.
