This is a very powerful remote control, but it takes time to learn the programming method (software) and to enter all the information in it. I wouldn't recommend it for most users unless you've trained the installer to do the initial setup for you or you don't like that sort of thing. However, this is a great remote control. My wife was able to use it almost immediately without any special training. My 7 year old uses it quite well too. What's especially nice is that once you've programmed it once, you can program the second the same way without any extra effort. It is also flexible enough to be used for home automation systems and not just entertainment systems. I recommend having 2 sets of rechargeable batteries (4 - AAA) as they last about 6 weeks. I wish screens could be renamed and button names were longer than 5 characters, but those are my only real problems. By the way, RF remote controls are the only way out. You can place components in the closet. You don't have to aim in a specific direction, you can even be outside of the room. They have a good range - I have no problem controlling my house from the front yard.
