The knife set was stunning and a steal at this price. Right out of the box, I was amazed to find that the knife block was a solid, solid piece of wood. I really didn't expect that. At this price for a full set of knives and extras, I was expecting chipboard or plastic or something. I'm pleasantly surprised. While not true Damascus steel, the knives have a beautiful laser engraved design. Damascus steel is more of a gimmick in my opinion. They are made of carbon steel and will last just as long as other kitchen knives. Out of the box the knives were very sharp and cut everything like butter. The knives have a full shaft design with a plastic handle that is very comfortable to the touch. I like the white color of the handle against the texture of the wood of the knife block. They cut a fine figure in the kitchen in white or light colours. Definitely looks like a kitchen item.
