Review on LG 34WK95U W 34 Class UltraWide 5120x2160p 21:9 Monitor by Casey Mendoza

Revainrating 2 out of 5

5K2K Ultrawide has some problems.

UPDATE 2/7/19: Ok I've made my final decision on this monitor. I decided to return it for a refund as I believe this new 5K2K theme is not ready for prime time. As I continued to use it, other issues (in addition to panel/backlight issues) became more apparent. For example, the smallest text is displayed on the screen with a small frame around it. I couldn't get rid of it by changing any settings and using the Displayport 1.4 compatible cable that came with the monitor. I hooked up my old LG 27UK850 and the picture looked perfect. I like the idea of 5K2K Ultrawide, but the technology doesn't seem to exist yet. I might try again in a generation or two, but it doesn't fit the Creative Professional solution right now. UPDATE 2/5/19: I received a replacement monitor. Uniformity is MUCH better, but still not perfect. Unfortunately, there is a vertical bright spot right in the center of the screen. I would have hoped a $1,400 monitor for creative professionals would have better panel quality control, but it looks like LG is losing out here. Not sure at this point if I'll live with the sub-par panel or return it for a refund. I'll update the review when I've made a decision. ORIGINAL REVIEW: There's a lot to love about this monitor - the pixel density and ultra-wide aspect ratio are fantastic. Based on two excellent 27-inch 4K monitors from LG, I had high hopes for this monitor. Unfortunately, color uniformity was ridiculously poor on the unit I received, which is particularly frustrating given that this monitor is expensive and is aimed at creative professionals like me. . Whites and grays appear very pink on the left side of the monitor and have a more natural green cast on the right side (compared to the left side). I've requested a replacement so I hope the next unit doesn't have this issue. I will update this review once the replacement arrives but my first impression is that I am very disappointed.
