It is definitely not easy to adjust the water level to ensure smooth ice fall. The compartments are quite narrow, to follow the instructions: just press from the bottom to release the ice. My fingers hurt, my hands are bigger than most women's. (Middle and thumb ring size 9). If you use lids it will take forever for the water to freeze. We use a lot of ice in my house, it melts very quickly, even in my thermal water bottle. The freezing time and amount of ice cream made in these bowls does not match the amount of ice cream used in my family. Good for backup trays I think.
