For Niva, I purchased secondhand. I started by reading reviews to learn which tire has long-lasting spikes so that I wouldn't buy a dud and end up with bald tires after a few months. I bought tires that were two years old, and 10% of the spikes were gone. Now that I've skated on them for half the season, all of the spikes that were there when I bought them are still there. I'm happy with them, and it looks like I'll be able to use them for more than a year.
