I didn't want to pay more than a hundred dollars for Shimano so I took a chance. You have two levers, one for upshifting and one for downshifting. Can be controlled from the hood or in normal mode. Very easy to install although you will have to reuse the brake cables. At the same time, consider replacing the core tape. I am very happy with the aluminum construction. I thought the handles and body were plastic until I rubbed (read: banged into) a concrete wall and scratched the paint on it. They are really durable, so far after 200 miles. I shift gears a lot on my road bike and have nothing to complain about.
