Worth a try! best usb microscopes

Looking for a cheap entry level USB digital microscope I found thousands for sale at Revain. I read many reviews and finally decided to try Plugable Digital Microscope. Here's what I found. At $35 I certainly wasn't expecting the quality or performance of the Dino-Lite, but I have to say I wasn't disappointed. Plugable is made entirely of plastic, but looks quite high quality. Setting up and installing the software was easy. Drivers and software are not included, but are referenced in the included "Quick Start Guide". I prefer to download software and drivers to get the latest versions. After installing the software and mounting the microscope on a tripod, simply plug in the USB port and you're done. The software is easy to use and seems to have pretty much everything you need to get the most out of your microscope. You can take photos or videos. The camera has a photo button, but you can also press the soft button to take a photo. Since the microscope is very sensitive and easy to move, I found it much more beneficial to be able to take photos with the push of a button in the software. I didn't see a way to change the magnification, so I contacted customer service. I was told that the magnification depends on the distance from the microscope to the object in conjunction with the focus ring. It's a bit confusing and takes some getting used to, but you get "interesting" results. In fact, there's no way of even remotely guessing what magnification you have. I have attached several photos of a quarter at different "enlargements". As I said, it's just a matter of moving the microscope closer to the quarter and focusing accordingly. If you place the microscope directly on the object and turn the focus ring further in the "+" direction, you get two focus points, the last one at the maximum possible magnification. I hope the photos show what I'm talking about. All in all, it's worth a try if you're just looking for fun and aren't into serious research or lab work. It won't break the bank and it's fun for "kids" of all ages. I am 63 years old, retired and constantly looking for new "toys". I had to contact customer service about a small software issue. Sam the customer service rep was very patient and knowledgeable and stayed with me until he found a satisfactory solution. Thanks to his customer service, this purchase was worth a very reasonable price!
