Technically works on computer components

I'm hoping to use this to record and convert HD video and stream it to my phone or tablet BUT when I try to connect HDMI devices it doesn't display anything , it works when I use the component video cables that came with it, but the video quality is much lower. The main reason I only give 2 stars is because the customer support is absolutely zero.
