Review on 🌡️ HM Digital COM100 Waterproof Temperature Meter by Hayden Hart

Update: The product listing on Revain has been updated since I first posted this review. Luckily the previous inaccurate information that this device is used to check salinity in addition to temperature, TDS etc has been removed from the new product listing. In the old listing it was sold as a TDS device which can also check salinity on its own and at different salinity scales. My first review is below in case the product listing changes again. ***First Review:*** I do not recommend this device if you plan to use it to test salinity in a saltwater tank. The product page here at Revain states that it is used to check salinity in addition to TDS, temp etc. If it isn't (and it isn't), then it should be listed. I bought one of these to use for my reef tank. The product insert states that it can be used for reef aquariums and includes instructions to that end (two scales offered). The packaging also states that it is intended for use in aquariums and aquaculture. However, my instrument failed to measure salinity on any of the recommended scales; The device merely stated that the parameters were out of range and did not display any readings. I tested my water with another salinity meter and also calculated the salinity manually and both calculations showed the water was within standard reef parameters. However, the HM Digital I received could not read in this area. I have tested the device in other solutions and at different salinity levels and have been able to get readings for lower salinity levels. However, it could not obtain salinity readings in the standard range of a saltwater pool, even if the saltwater was not mixed into the pool (and therefore dosed with nothing). However, HM Digital consistently measured temperatures on all of the samples I tested. The rest of the device was easy to use. Easy to switch mode and ideal for reading temperature; but it's quite expensive to use it only for temperature measurement. There may be a simple explanation for this, or I received a faulty device but when I contacted the company my email was ignored. I am returning the goods through the seller who helped me. I would love to love this article but unfortunately I recommend you just buy a hydrometer or a real refractometer for saltwater use.
