A very large hole needs to be drilled

Not sure what measurements these measurements are meant to represent. I drilled a 1/4" hole and none of them fit. I ended up drilling a 1/2" hole through which I could insert a medium sized 3/16" cup. Hole looks very strong but it are better products out there.
