This is fantastic for a gun safe that I put two packs in. I keep a recording electronic hygrometer in my safe so I can see how humidity changes over time. When I open the door, room air enters the safe and the humidity rises significantly. After closing the door, the humidity is well reduced. The beads will turn pink when saturated and can be lightly microwaved (30 seconds to 2 minutes) according to package directions. The goal is not to "boil" the water, but to heat the spheres to the point where their ability to hold moisture is less than the humidity of the surrounding air. Silica granules lose their ability to absorb moisture when heated - they do NOT need to be heated to boiling water temperature. I've found that 2-3 times in the microwave (about 1:30 on low power, letting cool each time) is required when very saturated, but still much more efficient than using a regular oven.
