Review on Global Art Materials Drawing Journal by Tara Ford

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great for certain media and cute

I bought 5X5. It's small and cute and perfect for small sketches or travel. The weight of the paper isn't listed, but it looks like the paper weighs 90 pounds. The paper itself is not pure white (more off-white) and has good toothing/texture. I've tried this on the following media: 1. Alcohol markers: mix well, don't spread well so can only be used on one side and you should have a protective liner like a spare watercolor square behind the side you are using are working on.2 . Prismacolor: mixes well and allows many coats to be applied without tooth loss.3. Water-based markers: avoid. Paper tears, doesn't stick well when working with a hard brush and synthetic brush tips4. Brush and Micron ink: Work well. Fluid, no tears, no bleeding.5. Gel Pen: Suitable for line drawing, paper will tear if too much is applied/used to fill in an area6. Raffine or KohIN or Oil Sticks: ok, not a lot of layers.7. Pastels, charcoal and soft pastels: some flaking but good adhesion to the page. mixes well.8. Watercolor paint (tube and tube): Suitable for dry or water application with a natural fiber brush and gentle brush strokes. Does not tolerate heavy water or heavy brushing work. Minimal bulging when water is used sparingly/overtly. Overall, I'm happy with the amount of media this paper handles. Basically, avoid water-based inks, using thick water in watercolors, and heavy brush work that irritates the paper and you'll be fine. The only bleeding I had was from alcohol markers. I will buy this brand again in other sizes.
