Review on Irix 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1 Dragonfly Lens for Canon: Unleash Your Macro Photography Potential by Ryan Sandell

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Fatal flaw in an otherwise great lens

Nicely and securely packaged, great Exif info, razor sharp photos with stunning object resolution. BUT, I'm afraid to hold it. It randomly emits a LOUD buzzing NOISE (loud NOISE) that persists even after the camera is turned off. Only by pulling out the battery was it possible to stop it. I bought this lens for my Sony a7iii. I have Metabones and MC-11 adapters for Canon mount lenses. My Sony a7iii works great with all my other Canon lenses and older lenses (including the IRIX 15mm). Of course, if the IRIX was available as a Sony FE mount, I would buy this model to work natively on my Sony a7iii. But it wasn't there. However, the reviews said it works adaptively, so I bought it. Everything was fine for the first few days, then the noise started. A few days no problem. Other days it would happen as soon as I started using it. I suspect this is just a bug of this instance of this lens. But now I don't want to try a replacement. Maybe IRIX will release a Sony FE Mount model at some point. I'll try if they do. I am giving 3 stars and deducting 2 stars because I was scared half to death. By the way, I have Canon full-frame cameras and APS-C cameras. I've tried IRIX on those who had no problems (but not extensively, so this isn't a definitive no-problem conclusion). Also, Canon doesn't have an IBIS or Focus. Hence my desire to use IRIX with the Sony A7iii.
