Bought this as a cheap experiment to go with my new tank plate that I got for my birthday. I have a gas stove and was a bit concerned about how short the metal safety collar was on the handle; the wood was actually closer to the fire than I would have liked. After two or three uses this was no longer a problem as the handle had actually snapped off. I threw away the pin and intend to just use the metal part from now on. In any case, it's more convenient for me; Firewood is not suitable for a gas stove ;) It's very cheap, but it does the job. I washed it before first use but there was some discoloration. It obviously takes longer to heat up, but it protects my Tanjin and Turkish coffee maker well from open flames. My gas stove has the burners spaced very far apart, which is also good for creating a more stable surface for milk warmers and very small pots. Short version: It's convenient, but you get what you pay for, which isn't much.
