Review on ๐Ÿ”ฅ Enhanced OTC 6589 Spark Tester with Electronic Ignition by Chris Nako

Revainrating 5 out of 5

An amazing tool, more important than you think.

Great tool, I don't even think about using a screwdriver or an extra spark plug to test the coils, the actual test is bigger. Coils sometimes like to loosen over time and sometimes cause misfires. You can't verify if it's 20% weaker than it should be. It will still seem like a good spark. Unless you're using an OTC spark tester, the coil must output a much higher voltage. Similar to high load conditions. Looks like I'm trying to sell this tool but today it saved me a lot of time on a 4 coil Ford 5.4 that failed the tester. All had a decent spark, but clearly not enough. Replaced all 4 badly tested ones and now it works great. I wouldn't have known about it otherwise. The only issue I had is the end snapping onto the spark plug wire, which has unscrewed over time, although a bit of Loctite should keep it in place. Porcelain can get dirty too, I use brake cleaner and a clean paper towel or Q-tip to wipe it back down. I bought this about 2 years ago, it helped me a lot but really saved me today. I paid $13.84 here at Revain. Bought again and again. Edit 2021: The clip recently fell off as it's actually just hanging on a small metal bar. The problem is that the spring fell off somewhere and I can no longer use the clip. To ground it I need to attach a small jumper wire to it. But I still had to do it from time to time because there is so much plastic in cars. Maybe in time I'll find another feather and cut it off if necessary.
