I've spent a lot of time looking at various Dutch ovens. I'm glad I took the time to choose this. I was very impressed with the quality of this dutch oven, the price is amazing. We have the first gas oven and hob. I've always had electric or glass tops. I love gas and frying is easier when the meat is browned. I love that the lid can be used as a frying pan. Instead of a handle in the middle of the lid. I confess, first I had to think about how to remove the cover first. I usually just grab the handle on the lid, in this case I just twist the lid a little and then lift it up. It's pre-seasoned but I re-seasoned it anyway, it's not necessary but using it makes the cast iron better. I made a great pot roast and sautéed the onions, celery and potatoes on top. This greatly simplified the whole process. Yummy, my wife posted everything on her Facebook and we got loads of compliments. I've noticed the first use of Iron Flavor, but the more it's used, the less often it happens. I still needed to be washed and reseasoned with shortening, I am, but I've never had rust on cast iron, especially on a new piece. It is important to learn how to use cast iron. Honestly! I don't think I could have made a better purchase.
